Southwest Acupuncture College (2012-2015)
Southwest Acupuncture College is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) school. Its academic program consists of 3,000 hours of training in acupuncture, herbal medicine, physical therapy, nutrition, and exercise/breathing therapy.
The most significant number of hours are devoted to studying and practicing acupuncture and herbal medicine, with the balance of the hours completing a student education in graduate-level studies in Oriental medicine and Western science. Upon graduation, the college confers the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) degree.
NCCAOM (2016-Today)
The NCCAOM is responsible for developing and administrating the National Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology, and Oriental Medicine Certification Programs. The NCCAOM evaluates and attests to the competency of its national board-certified acupuncturists through rigorous eligibility standards and demonstration and assessment of the core knowledge, skills, and abilities expected for an entry-level practitioner of acupuncture and Oriental medicine.
To become a diplomate of acupuncture (NCCAOM), a practitioner must complete an accredited master’s degree program lasting three to four years, which includes traditional differential diagnosis and proper treatment methods.
ACAHM
The Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) is the only body recognized by the US Department of Education for quality ACAHM-accredited education. NCCAOM certification exams in foundations of Oriental medicine, acupuncture, and biomedicine are required to demonstrate professional competency.
